This month marks a lot of important moments for Esprit. The brand is opening a new store at shopping mall The Mint on December 6th in Brussels, and furthermore, their new Christmas collection has found its way to the stores. But maybe even more remarkable is the launch of their new collaborative effort with Opening Ceremony, the third of its kind. "With this third collection, it has grown up a bit," explains Humberto Leon, co-founder of Opening Ceremony.
Building upon the logo t-shirts, sweatshirts, hats and totes that have become signatures of this collaboration, Winter 2017 also features new silhouettes including outerwear, cardigans, bodysuits and suspendered pants and skirts. The palette includes a range of sherbet-like tones and rich wintery cherry reds. In addition to the graphic plaids, leopard print has been added in unexpected colors such as blush pinks and navy. Fabrications include wool suiting, rich and textural faux furs, velvet, crepe and merino fully fashioned knits.
Rooted in Esprit’s original ethos of inclusion, the collection features a range of loose fitting, versatile silhouettes that allow for unisex styling and encourage a mix-and-match mantra across all colors and prints. The individual pieces are enhanced by layering them together, both for style and for warmth. New nostalgic accessories, including “scrunchies”, berets and a saddle shoe heeled boot, complete the collection.“In our first two seasons working with Esprit, we tapped into our teenage years hanging out at the mall,” recalls Leon. “We’re still very inspired by the iconic Esprit logos and design hallmarks of the time, but we’ve evolved the approach to add updated prints and new silhouettes. This is Esprit by Opening Ceremony going off to college."
